Safe and Sound is a series of paintings exploring the aesthetic qualities of certain domestic materials used for home maintenance and improvement. Frequently employed in the household, they perform various defensive functions such as absorbing shock, reducing friction and noise, and protecting surfaces from scratches. They are found and applied to the underside and in-between of things, residing in peripheral view. They appear when we need them, hidden when in use, and discarded when worn out. Safe and Sound is an attempt to liberate them from their destined purpose by extending their lifespan as a work of art.
These works are currently exhibited at UNTAPPED Alumni 2021, as part of Singapore Art Week 2021, from 15th to 30th January 2021.
